Commercial fusion will be built in partnership
Partnerships have always been at the centre of how we work, from engineering and energy companies to research institutions and governments.
FLARE is ours. We designed the fuel system, own the architecture and hold the IP behind it. But we can’t reach commercial fusion alone. Building power plants at commercial scale requires industrial capabilities, infrastructure and long-term backing.
That’s where partners come in – not to build FLARE, but to build around it. We’re looking for organisations that can bring the complementary technology, capability and resources to help turn FLARE into commercial fusion.
Technology partners
FLARE is designed to work with complementary technologies developed by partners.
First Light Fusion brings the fusion fuel system and ignition architecture. We work with organisations developing the drivers and enabling technologies around FLARE, including pulsed power, ignition systems and associated engineering.
Industrial and delivery partners
First Light is not building every element of a commercial fusion system itself.
We work with industrial partners that bring specialist engineering, manufacturing, infrastructure and delivery capability. They combine their scale and execution expertise with First Light’s technology and system-level requirements.
Commercial and capital partners
The capabilities we built for fusion now serve customers well beyond it – in space, defence and other demanding fields. From extreme-environment testing and advanced diagnostics to modelling and simulation, we help partners test, measure and prove their work.
That commercial foundation is also what makes fusion investable. We welcome approaches from customers looking to accelerate and validate their own programmes, and from strategic investors who share our long-term vision for commercial fusion.
Government and institutional partners
Government and institutional partners play an important role in accelerating fusion development.
First Light works with national laboratories, research institutions and government bodies that can bring facilities, validation, programmes and strategic support. Together, we strengthen sovereign capability and the UK fusion supply chain.
