13 November 2023 - Oxford, UK: First Light Fusion (‘First Light’), the world’s leading inertial fusion company, has today announced that it has been invited to attend the UK Government’s annual Global Investment Summit (GIS) on 29 November.

First Light has been selected as one of 12 top UK businesses to showcase the best that the UK has to offer in terms of business and innovation. This is the second time First Light has attended the Summit.

The Summit brings together over 200 global CEOs and investment companies to showcase the UK as a world-leading investment destination. In 2021, it raised £9.7 billion worth of investment from around the world for the UK economy, stimulating economic growth and creating thousands of valuable, highly skilled jobs.

The theme of the 2023 summit will be ‘Great British Ideas: past, present and future’. First Light will be showcasing its ambitious plans to leverage its unique inertial fusion technology to make the UK a global leader in fusion energy. First Light is currently finalising plans for its Gain demonstrator, Machine 4. Due for completion this decade, it will be the world’s largest pulsed power facility. First Light is also pursuing parallel plans for a pilot power plant, to be delivered in the 2030s.

The Summit, sponsored by the UK Department for Business and Trade, will be held on the 27 November.

Nick Hawker, Founder & CEO of First Light Fusion, commented:

"We are excited to return to the Global Investment Summit to showcase the next phase of First Light Fusion’s programme: building Machine 4, our world-leading gain demonstrator. It’s a pivotal time for inertial fusion.

With the rapid progress delivered over the last 12 months, we are heading into a new era of commercialisation, and the UK is at the forefront of that as a global fusion leader. It’s a truly exciting moment for the UK’s fusion sector and we are delighted to have the opportunity again to demonstrate the UK’s natural strengths to global investors.”
