We are looking for a Graduate Scientist to join the Data Science group at First Light. You will develop new data science tools to support our goal of inertial fusion power production. The Data Science team is part of the wider Numerical Physics group at First Light.
Our current data science work focuses on supporting our fusion research by providing numerical optimisation tools, improving simulation performance using machine learned surrogates and statistical emulators, and support for model calibration to experimental data using Bayesian inference techniques. This work is continually evolving in response to the changing needs of the company’s core research and developments in the wider field.
You will design, implement and validate robust data science and machine learning solutions at the exciting intersection between physics based high performance simulation, uncertainty quantification and the assimilation of experimental data. Support will be provided by senior members of the Data Science team and dedicated training provided as needed. You will also form part of the wider Numerical Physics team and work in conjunction with numerical and theoretical physicists to develop the company’s simulation-based research platform. There will also be the opportunity to work with and support the Experimental and Pulsed Power teams, and to work with collaborators in academia.
