Job Description

We are looking for a Project Manager to join our Pulsed Power team. The Pulsed Power team develops and operates extremely high-energy pulsed discharge machines. The team have designed, built, and operate a series of pulsed power machines including Machine 3, the largest of its kind in Europe. Now, we are working on a major next step for First Light Fusion, the design and building of what is expected to be the largest pulsed power facility in the world; Machine 4.

The size of the machine at the heart of this scientific facility will be circa. 100 m and the facility will accommodate a series of supporting sub-systems. The programme is expected to take around five years to deliver with a materials budget exceeding £100M. The successful candidate will primarily work on the delivery of Machine 4, with the flexibility to support ongoing Pulsed Power experimental, operational, and design work.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Project manage the design and construction of Machine 4, our future experimental driver
  • Work closely with other stakeholders on the programme as a dedicated Technology Control team


  • A natural inquisition for electrical and mechanical engineering, with the ability to understand the technical nuances behind decisions.
  • Successful project management experience within the engineering or science sectors.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in project management good practice.
  • Attention to detail, organisation, coordination, task completion, and a good eye for efficient solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholders' management of technical specialists.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise time, as well as tasks effectively
  • Ability to deliver results under tight and evolving deadlines


  • Technical engineering or science experience in the relevant fields.
  • Professional membership and relevant qualifications in project management
