Fusion promises clean, abundant energy. The science has been proven. The challenge now is making it work at commercial scale. FLARE, our two-stage fusion fuel system, is how we get there.

FLARE makes commercial fusion possible

It’s not the fuel. It’s not the machine. It’s the fusion fuel system.

FLARE is First Light’s own fusion fuel system. Rather than asking the fusion machine to do everything, FLARE puts more of the functionality into the fuel system itself. This reduces the demands placed on the machine and creates a simpler route to commercial fusion.

Commercial fusion will be built in partnership

We’ve built FLARE. We’re looking for partners to build around it.

Take your testing to our extremes

The capabilities we’ve built for fusion now solve the hardest problems in space, defence and beyond.

In August 1976, 16-year-old William Martin began work as an apprentice toolmaker. Fifty years later, he is still solving difficult problems, making precision components and learning new skills now as part of the team at First Light Fusion.

22nd September 2026 - First Light Fusion has demonstrated the key fuel compression principle underpinning FLARE, its proprietary  approach to inertial fusion, in a series of experiments on M3, the company’s in-house pulsed power facility.
